Serving and Protecting Those Who Protect and Serve.

EvenKehl provides fast, direct financial aid to Colorado officers who have been critically injured in the line of duty.

A Message From Our Founder & CEO

ERIC HAAVE

Through my personal life experiences, I strongly feel that I have been called to serve and protect those who protect and serve. First, by serving our officers who have been injured in the line of duty by rendering fast, direct financial assistance to them and their families through a local charity I founded, called EvenKehl, and secondly, by protecting officers from the financial desperation and disaster that those situations can cause, by providing education to officers like yourselves about a solution not many officers know about - one that can make sure they have immediate access to hundreds of thousands of dollars if they’re ever critically injured in the line of duty.

Our Inspiration: Mike Kehl (as told by Eric Haave)

Mike was a Deputy for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. He was never satisfied and was the highest achievers, with a promotion to Sergeant and a member of the Regional SWAT team for Jefferson County.

He was charismatic, a kid at heart, and a loyal friend. However, no one has ever made me angrier, more heartbroken, or sadder than Mike did.

I remember the day all too well. It was the morning of January 6th, 2020. I sat at my desk that Monday morning unable to work. I was peering at my phone as if I was willing it to ring, with a phone call letting me know everything was OK. My phone vibrated across my desk as it rang. It was Heather...her voice was quaking, “I don’t know how to tell you this” she said, but before she could finish, I interrupted. “You don’t have to. I’m on my way”.

Mike had just taken his own life.

A man whose will to succeed was stronger than the armor he wore externally, but internally he was broken.

And just like that he was gone.

Mike served 10 years as a deputy, but after one fateful day in 2017, his career quickly came to an end after suffering a broken back while working on the SWAT team. The simple tasks of putting on his vest and wearing his duty belt left him in agony after his injury.

Depression set in after being injured and unable to perform the job he loved, which lead to a path of addiction and the resulting financial strains that came with it.

It was devastating to be so close to a man who was a hero to his kids and emulated by his peers, but was hurt so bad he couldn’t overcome it; therefore, we have a void because of it. What happened to Mike Kehl broke my heart. It’s something I could have never imagined happening.

After witnessing firsthand, the total devastation that ensued from a brief moment in time, merely seconds in which Mike was injured...I knew I had to help.

“I want to serve and protect those that protect and serve.”
